Selflessness: A Christian Man's Compass
Our foundational scripture for Men of Jesus is Matthew 16:24. Do you know what it says?
Here it is: Then Jesus said to his disciples, “If any of you wants to be my follower, you must give up your own way, take up your cross, and follow me.
The world urges us towards self-preservation, but as Christian men, we're called to a higher standard - selflessness. Why embrace this counter-cultural value?
It's what Jesus modeled: "Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves." (Philippians 2:3) Christ's life was a constant act of putting others first, culminating in His ultimate sacrifice.
It strengthens relationships: "Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others." (Philippians 2:4) Selfishness breeds isolation, while selflessness fosters genuine connection and trust.
It brings true fulfillment: "It is more blessed to give than to receive." (Acts 20:35) The world equates happiness with getting, but true joy comes from giving, serving, and loving as Christ loved us.
A Story of Transformation
John, a driven businessman, prioritized success over relationships. His family felt neglected, his friendships faded. But witnessing a homeless man share his meager food sparked a change. John began volunteering, mentoring, and putting loved ones first. His life, once empty, found new meaning and joy.
